We have some very important updates we need to share that will be effective immediately. To start off, the Fremont Wrestling Club is seeing a level of success never before seen. We have blasted past our old record by 50% and have about 150 kids registered in our club! With this many kids also comes some new challenges we’ve been discussing behind the scenes and have to implement some changes to ensure safety and compliance. We’re going to list this off in the order of importance.
1. Parents and Non-Wrestlers During Practice
This probably applies more to the little kids’ practices (Monday/Thursday 6:00 – 6:45) as the older kids tend to get dropped off and picked up. Our old policy was to allow parents in the wrestling room until January after which we switched to only kids in the room. With the amount of kids we have along with now utilizing both upstairs and downstairs rooms for the groups, we can not have parents in the room anymore. We need all the room we can get to run an effective practice and also to make sure we are not putting too many people in one room which could potentially violate a code. We thank you for your understanding in this. We will communicate this at practice as well.
Expanding further into this, we now have a designated area for parents and non-wrestlers during practice. Everyone that is choosing to stay at the FHS during practice must go to the CTE Commons Area (With the chairs and tables) during practice. We cannot have parents or kids sitting in the hallways outside the wrestling room anymore. Furthermore, if you are there with a child they can’t be left unattended for any reason if they are not currently at practice. Parents, please ensure that any kid you are with are not running up and down the hallways and are on their best behavior, they must remain in the CTE Commons area for the entirety of practice. Remember, the FHS is gracious enough to let us use their facility. We don’t want to abuse this relationship and do anything to jeopardize it.
Any questions about this please let us know. This is something that we will be starting to enforce tonight on Thursday, November 13th. It is especially important tonight as it is FHS Registration Night so there will already be foot traffic throughout the school we don’t want to interfere with.
2. Coaches and Bilingual Help
With the number of kids we have as well, we again would like to invite any parent who would be willing to step up to be a coach. We are a non-profit ran by volunteers. Wrestling experience not required. We have coaches who can help you learn to help kids. Especially in regard to the little kids’ group, their list of skills they’ll learn is very limited as they begin to understand wrestling. To answer common questions we’d like to give a brief summary of the responsibilities of a coach. We would like coaches that could be there for the entirety of all practices. But if you can only do either the Monday/Thursday 6:00-6:45 or the M/T/Th later big kid’s practices it would still help out. There is also an expectation that you will coach at least 2 sessions every weekend at tournaments. There’s also a USAW card/test/background you have to do which Fremont Wrestling Club does reimburse you for.
Also, if there is anyone who is bilingual and would like to step up and be a coach, please reach out to us. We do have some wrestlers we’d like to help out but currently have a language barrier with. Our goal is to let any kid, regardless of background, the chance to wrestle if they want to.
Any questions about coaching please let us know or get with our Head Coach, Dalton.
3. Items
Please make sure you are sending your kid with everything they need for practice. Coming dressed in shorts/t shirt for practice. Arrive at least 5 minutes early to get your wrestling shoes on (Again, shoes are recommended, not required.). Don’t forget your water bottle as well. Some of you know how hot that room can get when you have that many kids working out, it’s like a sauna in there!
Also, we realize that kids can misplace or lose items. Every night we try to go through and find things that may have been left behind. We do have a lost and found so if you or your child lost something reach out to us. We’ll do our best to try to find it and get it back to you.
