1. Additional Tournament 101 Process

After running our first tournament, we wanted to go over the ideal process of where your kid should be and when.

First, when you get to the tournament try to find your seating area. This may change once you find out what mat you’re officially on but have your kid with you, so they know where “home base” is in between matches. Again, if Fremont Wrestling Club families could group together it does help the wrestling experience by becoming invested in other FWC matches and having a “hang out” area for kids.

Second, hold on to your kid until the current session is about ending. During the sessions, the coaches are invested in their current wrestler’s matches and may be unable to keep an eye on your child. Towards the end of a session mats will start to clear up and you’ll see wrestlers start warming up for the next upcoming session. At that time take your child to a coach to begin warmups. Often, you’ll see all the Fremont coaches and wrestlers in a group on an open mat getting some warmup practice in before the session begins.

Last, once warmups are complete your child can return to you, back at “home base”. Then your goal as a parent is to keep up with trackwrestling/FloSports for your child’s upcoming bouts. When your bout is about 3 matches away, at that time your child should start heading to his mat to be ready to wrestle. They can connect with a coach at that time. After they are done wrestling, they should talk with the coach to get a recap of their match. Then they go back to “home base” waiting for their next match.

This will help keep the coach’s focus on being on the mats for our wrestlers and not having to keep an eye on kids.

  1. Next Tournaments!

Next weekend’s tournaments will be:
Wolverine Youth Tournament – Our District 5 Tournament in Bancroft. This will be a smaller tournament.
Jr Titans Winter Classic – Our OMAWA Tournament in Omaha. Will be a bigger tournament but offer Novice and Open Divisions (So you can go to the bigger tournament but still wrestle people that are beginners/little experience if you want).
Fill out the form here to sign up:

We are also adding an “Either/Or” option for the tournament. If you don’t care what specific tournament you do, please choose that. It will allow us to look at how many are going to each tournament, how our coaching situation looks at both, and if there’s an overrepresentation of an age/weight division and appropriately split them up to provide the best experience. You will know by Tuesday (assuming you sign up Monday) of which one was chosen.

We will always send out a reminder email and say something at practice about Thursday Satellite Weigh Ins if applicable for any tournament we’re running (or if weigh ins will be required there at the tournament). We just wanted to cover being safe during the Weigh In Process. Remember that weigh ins are done in a public place. We strongly advise every child to be safe and protected during this process. Please be sure you are covered up and comfortable when weighing in. Report any suspicious behavior that you see.

  1. Photo Day

This Thursday we will be handing out Pictures from Photo Day! Look forward to that when you drop off or pick up your kid at practice.

  1. Photo Dump

We have photographers at our tournaments but with how long and how crazy and how many kids there are we can’t get all the shots. We’re going to try something new for those that would like to help.

Please click on the following links to attach this weekend’s pictures to our Shared Google Photos:
Omaha Bryan – https://photos.app.goo.gl/RfcYC6mwemJq2gko9
Wisner Gator Swamp Stomp – https://photos.app.goo.gl/xDQUGQ3xxqFD8VLL6

These can be pictures of your kids wrestling or just a group of our kids hanging out together having a great time! Your photos could be featured in our Facebook post for the week! Each week these photos will be deleted and redone for the next tournament. Try to send these in ASAP, as we go through them Monday and Tuesday for Wednesday’s post.
