Happy New Years from the Fremont Wrestling Club!
1. Registering Wrestlers
With as many new people as we have in club wrestling this year we wanted to take the time and put out more information regarding tournaments. This should serve as an FAQ and also have some specific information for this upcoming weekend further down.
Fremont Wrestling Club is very unique as a club as we register kids on your behalf. We pay for all of our wrestlers to attend one tournament per week. That plus a low sign up fee makes us one of the most affordable and best wrestling clubs in the state! All you need to do is pay attention to your Monday emails and click on the form link to fill out your wrestlers information for the tournament you want to go to. Remember to sign up Monday right away otherwise we can’t guarantee your registration as these tournaments do fill up.
When filling out the forms there’s a couple questions you have to answer. The one we got questions about the most is the difference between Novice and Open. Novice is more beginner wrestlers with less than 2 years experience in club wrestling or under a .500 record. Open is for more experienced wrestlers. The goal is over time to move from Novice to Open.
We would again like to remind you that part of being in the Fremont Wrestling Club is volunteering for our tournament Sunday, Feb 15th. That tournament is how we are able to make this such a great club for all the kids in Fremont to be able to enjoy wrestling. That’s how we’re able to afford paying for kid’s registrations.
2. After Registering
Once you register your kid we do all the work behind the scenes. But there is some homework for you to do as well. First, check out the flyer of the tournament you’re going to. The two most important things you want to find and pay attention to are Weigh Ins and Session Times.
Weigh Ins are a big part of wrestling, as it separates everyone into similar weights so they’re wrestling kids they’re supposed to be wrestling. These are usually held the day before or the morning of a tournament at the location of that tournament. You have to check the flyer for specific information. There are also satellite weigh-ins. These allow places like Fremont Wrestling Club to weigh in our wrestlers (and sometimes other wrestlers from other clubs around the area) for a tournament we’re going to. Very often we are given satellite weigh in privileges for tournaments we’re sending our wrestlers to. We will always try to keep you up to date with specifics, but we usually hold weigh-ins during Thursday’s practice (@6:45 when little kids get out & @7:00/@8:30 for when older kids get there/get out). The coaches will remind kids/parents at practice to weigh in for that weekend’s tournaments.
The other thing you want to find is Session Time. Whether you are in the Boys/Girls Divisions find the Age/Grade separation criteria and there will always be a Session Start Time. Plan on arriving one hour earlier than that time. #1 Because sometimes sessions do start earlier if they’re running through matches. #2 Because that allows you time to get changed into all your wrestling gear (don’t wear your shoes outside!) and find your team to warm up before you wrestle.
3. At Tournaments
Once at a tournament and you got your wrestler ready, go and find some other Fremont coaches/parents. Dress up in Fremont gear and make it easier for other coaches/parents to find you. Get your kid connected with a coach and they’ll organize warm ups.
To follow what’s happening in wrestling there are really two options you can use. First is trackwrestling (trackwrestling.com). We previously wrote up an entire guide on how to use trackwrestling, for the most part it’s 90% accurate still. Visit this link for that info:
https://fremontwrestlingclub.org/trackwrestling-guide/
Second is the FloSports app (on Google Play / Apple ). FloSports bought out trackwrestling recently so it’s overlapping data presented in different ways. Once in the app use the search function to find the tournament you’re at. Once inside you can add your wrestler and others if you’d like to find out when and where they’re wrestling. One of the best things you can do is play with the app and ask other parents for assistance in using it if you’re having troubles.
We understand that life happens in all directions. There will be times you signed up for a tournament with the full intention of going but for whatever reason don’t make it. In those cases we do ask that all parents please reimburse the club for the cost of that registration. This is typically $25 per registration. Failure to reimburse the club will prevent us from paying for future tournaments on your behalf.
4. Weigh Ins for Omaha Bryan and Wisner
So what about this weekend’s tournaments?
Omaha Bryan will be Saturday, Jan 3rd, 4:00-5:00. Don’t go through the CTE doors like we’ve doing. In this case we’re going to enter the school through Door 11. This is west (to the right) of the CTE Entrance you’ve been using all year. That door will take you directly upstairs into the wrestling room. We’ll be there with a scale and get everyone weighed in for Omaha Bryan.
Usually this would be a satellite weigh-in we do on Thursday’s practice. But with no practice today we will be holding it on Saturday. If you do not weigh in with us you need to weigh in Saturday from 5 to 7 at Omaha Bryan. You can’t wrestle Sunday if you don’t weigh on Saturday.
Wisner will not have a satellite weigh in. Wisner has weigh-ins until 9:00 am with all sessions starting at 10:00 am. You will have to be sure you get there early enough to weigh in before it closes down. If you show up at 10:00 and never weighed in you will likely be scratched from the tournament.
5. District 5 Duals and OMAWA Duals
There are two Dual Teams to which you can sign up to be a part of.
District 5 Dual Team will be made out of all the best kids from District 5. This could be a kid from Fremont, it could be a kid from Wahoo/Tekamah/Blair or anywhere else (In District5)! Wrestle offs for District 5 Dual Team will be held Wednesday, Jan 7th at 6:00pm at Fremont High School. If you make the team, you are agreeing to participate in the Regional District Duals on Wednesday, Jan 28th at Waverly.
If interested, register using this link:

OMAWA Duals will be Saturday, Jan 17 at Council Bluffs. If interested, we have sign up boards in the downstairs wrestling room. Find the weight you’d like to participate at and add your name. If multiple names are under the same weight, they will wrestle off to determine who gets the spot.
If you’ve read all this, thank you! You are now going to be a lot more informed going into our first weekend.
