As our season starts coming to an end one of the final offerings we have is going to be the 24th Hawks Wrestling Club Tournament.
This will be in Lincoln at the Sandhills Global Event Center. There’s not much seating there, but a lot of space so bring your lawn chairs. Also, adults are $10 at the gate, students are $5, kids 5 and under are free. No exceptions for coaches.
After this tournament, we’re one week out from NEUSAW Districts. This is a perfect tournament to do before districts for a couple of reasons. First, it is a really tough tournament. On top of the Hawks being one of the stronger Nebraska clubs, it’s also going to bring in a lot of kids from the Lincoln area that we may not have seen before. There’s no Novice/Open division so you may see some bigger brackets than you’re used to. Second, it is going to mirror districts in regards to having specific weight classes you have to register for, vs the Madison bracketing we’ve been doing at all of our tournaments so far this year.

These weight classes only apply to Boys Grades 1-8. All PreK & K and Girls Division will be “Madison Bracketed” which just means they put you with wrestlers that are by your weight like what you’ve seen with most of the tournaments. But for Boys Grades 1-8, when signing up with our google form, you will have a box where you will have to put the weight class you are going for in that grade. In short it looks like this:

1st-2nd: 40, 45, 50, 53, 56, 59, 62, 65, 70, 75, 85, 95, 105, 115, 140 (15 weights)
3rd-4th: 50, 55, 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 120, 140, 160 (16 weights)
5th-6th: 60, 65, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 100, 105, 112, 120, 130, 140, 160, 200, 250 (17 weights)
7th-8th: 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 102, 110, 117, 125, 132, 140, 150, 160, 175, 195, 220, 275 (17 weights)
We will try to secure Satellite Weigh Ins for Saturday 12-1 again, just like we did with Columbus. What makes this different than other weigh ins are you will have to have your child make the weight they registered as. Worst case scenario, if you can’t make the weight you signed up for this tournament, it’s not the biggest deal. For example, if you signed up for 7th-8th grade 85lb you would have to be 85.0 or under to make it. If you weighed 86.0 you wouldn’t be able to wrestle at 85, but we could bump you up to the next weight class, which would be 90 in this example.
