It’s the final week of the “Regular Season” as we gear up for Districts and beyond in the Wrestling Club. For some kids this may be the final week of practice. Just know it has been an honor and an incredible season this year watching all our new kids and girls division learn and grow. Remember, regardless of your individual accomplishments on the mats, the comradery they’ve had in practices and at tournaments make memories they hopefully won’t forget. Onto a list of super important things we need to cover for this week. Parents, we will need all your help in making sure this week is a success.

1. Besides Districts there will be a bonus tournament you can attend Friday, March 3rd at Loganview. This has always been a smaller, but fun tournament. The club will pay admission for your child to go but just know a couple things. First, it is Friday and check in for PreK – 2nd is at 4:30 with wrestling starting at 5:30. 3rd through 6th can check in until 6:00 with wrestling starting right after the first division. Second, Middle Schoolers (7th and 8th) can NOT attend this event as there is no division for them. Third, we can not guarantee coaches will be there for your kid, so go there under the assumption you may have to coach your own kid as he wrestles.

2. If you are part of the Huskerland Dual Team (We have a 3rd – 5th & and 6th – 8th Group) please make sure you are checking your email chains. If you are not getting them, let us know IMMEDIATELY. Important stuff that needs to be done by this week (ideally today or tomorrow). First, confirmation of your wrestler’s commitment to the duals. Second, your wrestler’s shirt size for dual shirts. Third, any additional shirt you may want for yourself or family ($20 per shirt). Third, book your hotel room in Kearney, we have rooms blocked off and ready to go, but they will be falling off soon.

3. a) Saving the best for last…DISTRICTS! This is going to be a more unique tournament than what you’ve been used to all year if you’re new to the club. Districts is the qualifier for the USA State Folkstyle Tournament in Grand Island March 17th and 18th. Being able to attend state is the goal if you are planning to wrestle for districts. The top 4 kids from each bracket are who qualifies for State. For PreK to K there really is no difference, everything is a 4 man round robin so every kid qualifies. Although to have us pay for your child’s way into state they would need to win at least one of their matches.

3. b) For 1st-8th grade there are weight classes. For those of you that are new this may be the first tournament you’ve had with them. You must decide what weight division your child will wrestle at for state. For example if you register your child in the 3rd – 4th grade division at 55 lb they MUST make that weight at not only Districts, but State as well (You MUST wrestle the same weight at state you did at districts…making weight again). In this example if your child weighs 55.0 lb they are fine, if they weigh 55.1 there is NO allowance and they would be over their weight and not able to participate. You MUST weigh in with a singlet on as well.

Forms for both tournaments will be handed out tonight. We’ll plan on having these forms turned in Thursday as normal. We will update if anything changes. If there’s any questions don’t hesitate to reach out to us, we’ll be happy to help.
